The Construction Zone: Literary Elements in Narrative Research

This article addresses a single aspect of narrative research: the construction of narratives as representations of research studies, using literary elements and devices common to nonfiction and fiction texts. The authors discuss these elements and use four narratives to illustrate them. The authors address how literary elements intersect with more familiar practices of generating and analyzing evidence to reveal themes.

I Felt So Guilty: Emotions and Subjectivity in School-Based Teacher Education

This article reports findings from a study focused on the emotional dimension of the practicum for school-based teacher educators as they support preservice teacher colleagues. It adopts a qualitative method informed by feminist post-structural theory in an attempt to give meaning to teachers’ narratives of their personal responses to supporting a less than successful preservice teacher. The study investigates teachers’ shifting sense of agency throughout the experience as they work within apparently intersecting discursive frames.

Action Research as Narrative: Five Principles for Validation

Along with the narrative turn in social sciences, the quality of research has become a more and more intricate issue. Action research reports are often narratives, located in the context of the evolving experiences of those involved. In this paper, the problem of quality in action research narratives is addressed, and some principles for assessing the quality of narrative research reports are proposed.
