In this article, the author examines the expectations of a group of site-based teacher educators. Each of these teacher educators attempted to support a pre-service teacher who struggled to achieve satisfactory outcomes on their professional placement. The current article is concerned with the bases for strong emotional experiences. The article also raises questions in relation to how we can support teachers make sense of discourses that shape their lives and their emotions, particularly with respect to site-based teacher educators' expectations of their pre-service teacher.

The current article explores some common methodological issues facing educational technology research. This paper also highlight new data collection approaches using examples from the literature and the authors' own experience Next, the authors highlight other challenges and opportunities inherent in the study of educational technology. In addition, the authors discuss the critical importance of aligning outcome measures with the technological innovation. In conclusion, the authors hope that the issues this article raises and the specific examples it includes spur critical reflection on some of the details important to data collection and educational technology research.

In this comparative analysis, the author calls for rethinking how we conceptualize student role and responsibility. This call frames the author's comparison of two programs, which she designed: One program involves secondary students in the preparation of high school teachers and the other program involves college students in the professional development of college faculty. The author then draws on the perspectives of student participants across these two programs to address a series of educational ideals that span K–12 and college contexts: inspiring lasting learning, celebrating humanity and diversity, and engaging in meaningful assessment.

The current article reports on the experiences of student teachers who undertook a community placement in order to interact with children and families outside their normal range of teaching practice experience. The article argues that the change in placement setting prompted student reflection in relation to these themes and shifts in beliefs, towards more authentic and complex understandings of partnership.

In this article, the author argues that for teachers to be leaders in contemporary classrooms, teacher education programs need to focus more on the deeper and wider implications of ICT and the Internet in education than has hitherto been the practice. The author considers the reforms in the ICT teacher training policy in Hong Kong. The article shows that these reforms, and the fact that Hong Kong is a 'wired', has resulted in pre-service teachers being well informed in the technical competencies of computer usage and its pedagogical manifestations.
